The Artistic Study in Water Colour
Dianne's approach is guaranteed to enhance your watercolour painting skills, reduce visual clutter and give your paintings an energetic boost! In a vigorous atmosphere of demos and hands-on, create quick, loose studies to see colour as tonal value, plan artistic compostions and use large shape to give watercolour its freedom. With humour and positive feedback, Dianne shows how to select elements to build stong watercolour paintings whether working from photos or plein air. Above Dianne endorses a fun learning environment where everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy the process.
Working outside (en plein air) as much as possible or indoors from still life sets, this is an ideal workshop for the artist who wants to loosen up and feel more confident with watercolour.

Tonal Value in Watercolour Painting
Recognizing tonal value and seeing tonal value as colour is the key to simplifying and empowering our watercolour paintings. Dianne has an excellent technigue to assist in seeing and identifying tonal values. With a surprising exercise that is conducted with randomly selected colours, Dianne demonstrates how to see colour as tonal value. "If the tonal value works, the whole painting will work no matter what colours you use."

Dianne is an accomplished watercolour artist, an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (cspwc) and signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Bright colours and strongly drawn images rendered in a distinctive style have marked Diannes watercolours since she began painting in the northern Gulf Islands in 1996. A solo show at the Campbell River Public Gallery in 1999 confirmed her originality. A workshop instructor for twelve years, Dianne has developed a supportive, effective teaching style. She has conducted workshops at numerous locations including eleven seasons at Hollyhock retreat centre on Cortes Island, three seasons at the Malibu Arts Retreat on the Sunshine Coast, seven seasons at Firesign Art & Design on Quadra Island.
