| To create works for the Meeting the Muse art show, Jodi began with a carved mask from which hide masks were cast. This required not only finding and carving the preliminary mask, but soaking, scraping, washing and moulding the hide. After soaking the hide in a bath of lime to loosen the hair, Jodi scapes it with an ulu (an Inuit hide working knife), then washes the hide in the ocean to remove all lime deposits. Next step - soaking the hide again in fresh warm water so that it is maleable for the casting process. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
