Dianne Bersea Drawing Gallery

Welcome to the Dianne Bersea Drawing Gallery at Manzanita Muse Studio.

For me, drawing is about process, an exploration of media & ideas, a meditation." Scroll down to see a selection of drawings in pencil, coloured pencil, ink and watercolor crayon. In the top sketch to right, I had fun working with watercolor pencils & looking for color and detail in the rocks on a beach nearby.

The Maple Tree above is a quick sketch I did in pencil and watercolor crayon. I hadn't packed a brush so I smudged the watercolor crayon with my finger and a frayed stick. The maple tree is right on the edge of the water, and used to have a spectacular show of leaves. But the salt water must have got into the roots so it's now just a huge skeletal shape. Still worthy of a visit and a painting, about a 25 minute walk from the studio.

I enjoyed the sensual quality of a weather worn twist of alder sinking into a salt marsh in Whaletown Lagoon. Once again, I worked with watercolor pencils and smudged them with my finger. The image to lower right is colored pencil, an exploration of roots exposed where a bank is being washed away by ever increasing tides driven by strong winter winds.

Sketch above from a motel balcony while waiting for the cruise to Princess Louisa Inlet for the Malibu Arts Retreat. The clouds kept coming in then retreating over a dramatic area of logged clearing. Watercolor crayon and pencil crayon. This one from the Malibu Princess on return cruise from Malibu Arts Retreat. Sketching from a moving boat means really letting go! There's no time to think! I rather like that. Watercolor crayon and pencil crayon.
