As always, my objective as an artist and a teacher is to look for ways to get directly to the work. My approach, especially for outdoor sketching and visual information gathering, is to 'Keep It Simple'. I use a minimum of tools and I just sit down and see what's in front of me. In a demonstration at a Fort St John workshop I picked three watercolour crayons without looking, and then parked a chair by the garden and started to work. I didn't even have a brush. I just used my finger, a stick and some water to render these flowers. I'm quite delighted by the result! |
