I'm surprised that I find beauty and fascinating art subjects in the logging clear cuts behind our property and elsewhere. I've been intrigued for awhile by what I call the 'baring' of the earth's skin. Very few logging practices leave an unmarked landscape. From what I've seen, most logging is a brutal process that brings down, and has brought down monarchs and blasted the earth raw in the process. Still, among the slash and burn piles there is a certain beauty that I'm attracted to, especially where there's new growth. These are hemlocks pushing up.
