"Benediction, Breton Islands"

The 45 minute ferry ride between Cortes Island and Quadra Island, the first leg of the journey to Vancouver Island, is an ideal suspended time for socializing and observation. I often sketch on this journey and I have lots of sketches of the islands and the intriguing cloud formations that fill the skies overhead. This painting began as a simple ball point pen drawing on a scrap of paper. It was then transformed into a pointalistic pen drawing, later a watercolour and finally this acrylic. Each transmutation represented an significant change in the image and a deeper and deeper focus on the drama of light and clouds.
