A morning walk on the south side of the spit between Cortes Bay and Red Granite Bluff yielded the inspiration for this painting which began as a spontaneous watercolour. The morning sun streamed into Cortes Bay and along the beach I walked catching highlights of warmth on driftwood. In between, a grove of trees were dark yet, and in silhouette against the bright sun on the opposite shore of the Bay.
