Another in my clear cut series, or what appears to be developing into a series. I am keeping a file of sketches and photographs that may yet become paintings. We live in a spectacular setting, even when we have taken so many trees for lumber. I find beauty in everything I see, from the smallest details on the beach, to the dramatic light on a sweep of logged mountain side. It's painful though, to be close by when logging is taking place. The sound of trees falling is a frightening sound and I can't help but think of all the life that must be disrupted by the cutting of a tree. Even where I live it seems impossible not to have a significant impact on what happens around me. Everytime something is moved, or an alder taken down because it's in danger of falling in high winds, I am aware that other beings must make new arrangements in their lives.
