A few years ago I volunteered to do a painting for a fundraising raffle for the Whaletown Commons Project. The community is working hard to buy a plot of land held by a logging company. It's an exquisite piece, with some old growth, marvelous west coast maples and a forest of sword ferns. A salmon stream runs through it. I visited it several times to decide what I wanted to paint and settled on these sword ferns lit by the sun.
