"The Sanctuary, Hollyhock Centre"

This unique building was designed by David Shipway, Cortes Island's most imaginative builder, and raised by a series of hands including mine. On a work retreat at Hollyhock, I helped dig out the Sanctuary foot print and begin the stone foundation. Finished with cob & stack wall construction and swooping living roof, the sanctuary provides a special space for many spiritual practices..., toning, meditation and digeridoo healing sessions. While the building was under construction my meditative practice was to sit off to the side and sketch. I have a series of watercolour studies documenting various stages of the construction which I plan to include in my book project.
