"Family Reunion, detail"

Since I made Cortes Island my home fifteen years ago, I've been painting my 'neighbourhood'. That's how I feel about everything that surrounds me. I see the trees as part of my family, or I as part of theirs.
First Nations people speak of trees as the "Standing People" with gender and powerful symbolism, so it is not a stretch to feel a kinship. I see each tree as an individual, with it's own shape and form and relationship to and with the world.
