"Balance"

I've often puttered aimlessly around the shore of Cortes Island in my kayak. It provides a different view of course, although I gave up trying to sketch from the kayak so photo reference has been my primary resource when I work with shorline images. But that doesn't interfere with the creative process. In this case, I had noticed the bright light of the sun when it hit the shore and the softer hues in the shadowed forground as paddled. For this painting I started with a photo of the balancing rocks in the foreground then added the background from other reference and sketches.
