"Gull Reach"

These Cortes Island bluffs, and similar bluffs along the north shore from Cortes Bay to Mary Point, have been very much part of my life. I have clambered over them, sketched them and visited them by kayak. They hold powerful meaning for me, especially as they are the protectors of ancient natural life. Some trees, stunted by the wind and their limited soil, are said to be 900 years old. The rocks are as ancient as time of course and have their own story to tell of earthly uplift and glacial scouring.
