"Majestic"

When I first lived on Cortes Island I had a spectacular view right down Georgia Strait and out over Savory and Texada Islands. But the truly commanding presence was this old fir, ragged and twisted by many a south-easter. I did a quick watercolour sketch one mid-day. Later when I was looking at the negative of the photo I'd taken of the painting, I was struck by the colors, the colors I often saw as the sun set that bathed the old tree with warm light. This is an interpretation of that inspiration. The tree is still standing, although more of the top is gone and younger trees are now growing up around it.
